I believe that there are three manifestations of purpose.  I use the word “manifestation” meaning that they have equal weight with no hierarchy and, in effect, all three can be operating at the same time.

  • The first is the Purpose common to every human being.
  • The second is Individual Purpose.
  • The third is Living on Purpose.

The first or Purpose Common each individual

Michael Beckwith says the purpose of every human is to reveal the face of God.  Or as Rev Ike puts it, our common purpose is to demonstrate God. In other words, live to our highest ability or integrity and release the things that are in the way of the expression of our Divine nature.  By recognizing and releasing the “lies” such as, fear, doubt, worry, lack, judgment, etc what naturally happens is that the truth of who we are takes up more space within us and express through us.  That is what we are all here to do as the embodiment of Source.

That is the number one purpose and actually is the inner work that we are constantly involved in as we go about our lives in the world.

The second or Individual Purpose is fueled by passion. In order for something to be your purpose you have to be able to be “all in” so to speak, body mind and spirit working in concert to fulfill that purpose.  In order to put everything into it you have to love it and believe in it. This is the manifestation of purpose that we most often think of, the one that seems so big and the one we judge the most.

I think there are few people who know their purpose from the get go.  I have heard people say that they knew their purpose when they were five years old. They knew what they were here to do and followed through and became it. I am always amazed when this happens and I think it is wonderful. When one considers all of the things that present themselves to us during our lives, to know so early that one purpose, is even more amazing.  Maybe it would make things easier if you just knew what your purpose is…or maybe not.

Everything has an evolution, our lives, our relationships, even our likes and dislikes.  So possibly our purpose also has an evolution OR what if our purpose exists as a fully realized state on the spiritual plane from the time we are born or before and beckons us to it throughout our evolution?

Here is an illustration- let’s say your fully realized purpose is to be a healer and spiritual teacher. Imagine that in your infinite time line of existence you exist right now as that teacher. But let’s say you have always existed as that teacher and it is that purpose that orchestrated the circumstances and conditions in your life to make you aware of it. Sort of like dropping bread crumbs that lead you to that realization.

Maybe you began this lifetime by choosing to be born into a family where you were the oldest and were responsible for your younger siblings.  This beginning was an introduction to healing and teaching.  Your brothers and sisters relied on you to care for them, emotionally as well as physically and this felt natural to you. Not a burden at all, but something you loved. When you got older you had your own family which further ingrained your purpose as a nurturer and care giver.  Along the way you became interested in metaphysics and alternative healing methods, maybe you or someone in your family required this form of treatment. But it wasn’t until your children got older that you actually had the time to pursue your interest and found that it truly called your heart. That interest then became a quest that took on an evolution of it’s own of learning and practicing while maintaining your home life or working to support yourself.

All of this time the fully realized healer and teacher was giving you clues, sparking your interest and touching the center of your being with the feeling that there was something much greater for you to do. While you were learning and practicing opportunities arose to help people and that is when you realized that this work is not just for you but you have a valuable contribution to make.  With this realization, the fire of passion begins to burn brighter and you start to own your abilities and then you are truly becoming the healer and teacher in present time.

The fully realized healer and teacher existed as you before you were born but until you got to the place where you could demonstrate it, it served as your guide to gently lead you on your path.

I now believe that our purpose has always existed within us.  So I understand and feel that the term, recognizing your purpose makes more sense than finding your purpose. We can be interested in many things but there is something that sits right inside our hearts that is working to reveal itself.  And I think we can get off-track if we desperately start beating the bushes trying to find it.  It is a much more subtle and graceful process than that and it exists in its entirety right now.

Maybe our individual purpose is revealed by living our lives and following our interests, paying attention to what makes our hearts sing and being led into a greater expression of it. This is fascinating and I think if we can have the idea that our fully realized purpose exists within us, we are a step ahead. We can release a lot of judgment about not being as far along as we should be or maybe having no idea what our purpose is.

I think if we look we will find a thread of interest or love that we can follow back through our lives possibly all the way back to childhood and notice how it has been maintained throughout that time.  Look at the little gifts or synchronicities that showed up to expand that interest and then notice if you feel it in your body when you think about it.  The notion that your fully realized purpose exists as one of your guides is brilliant!  It makes so much sense.

I invite you to play with that idea.  Entertain it and let me know what your experience of it is.  Meditate on it. What if, in a meditation, you called that guide forward and asked for this information.  If you can meet your other guides in this fashion, why not meet your purpose?

The third Manifestation of purpose is living on purpose. You don’t have to know what your ultimate purpose is in order to live on purpose. Living on purpose means conducting your life as if it matters because it does. It means knowing that what you say and do has an effect. It means living with integrity and positivity.  It means making a contribution to raising the vibration of the one reality by maintaining your vibration, by making a commitment to feel good and treat others the way you want to be treated.  The act of validating others like saying hello to a stranger, looking them in the eye and smiling raises the vibration.  Asking someone how they are and being interested in the answer raises the vibration.  Being kind, being a big person, a magnanimous person is a huge contribution.

Living on purpose is a gift to everyone you encounter and it opens the door to abundance, like attracts like.  I believe that if we are living on purpose we are demonstrating God. We can do that as we are being guided to our ultimate purpose.

Namasté,

Kelly
