Fifth or Throat ChakraThis is the fifth in a series of articles on the chakra body energetic system.  The first through fourth chakras have been discussed in previous articles. The seven major chakras coincide in-line with your spine.  Starting at the bottom and working up, the first chakra is located at the base of the sacrum or tailbone, the second chakra is proximity to the navel, the third chakra is hovering near the bottom of the lungs or by the solar plexus, the fourth chakra occupies the chest region, the fifth chakra is located at the bottom of the neck, the sixth chakra is located in the head, behind the eyes, and the seventh chakra lies flat on the top of the skull.  All the chakras except the seventh extend through the body, front to rear.

This article is dedicated to the Fifth Chakra or the Throat Center.  The fifth chakra is located in the throat. This is the center of communication and is linked to the soul for the expression of its desires.

In my experience the function of fifth chakra goes far deeper than simple communication.  Through the fifth chakra we speak our truth and express who we are, what we are here for and what we want. Cyndi Dale says a function of the fifth is “the ability to define ourselves in the world”.  This is not always easy to do because the energy that is behind that expression is conviction and conviction comes from a sense of worthiness and value.  Invalidation and unworthiness are energies that block the fifth chakra.

Maybe in this lifetime or previous lifetimes it was not possible to speak your truth for fear of punishment, persecution or even death.  This energy may be totally irrational in this present lifetime but the fear it arouses is very real and shuts down that communication center.

Another energy that blocks the fifth chakra has to do with judging, censoring or swallowing your words in order to be accepted by the person you are talking to whether that is ultimately good for you or not.  I am not talking about being socially acceptable I am talking about not being true to yourself  in order to be “okay” with another person or group of people.

The fifth chakra is the vehicle for processing and releasing emotion.  “Talking it out”  is a great description for the healing effect of talking through your emotions, which actually releases them from your physical body.

The outgoing or Yang function of the fifth chakra is about expressing verbally.  The receptive or Yin function of the fifth chakra has to do with receiving guidance.

The color associated with the throat chakra is blue.  The fifth chakra is the bridge between the elemental lower four chakras and thought (sixth chakra) and spirit (seventh chakra). The fifth chakra is the ether or space in which the four elements exist.  In his book Introduction to the Chakras, Peter Rendel explains the fifth chakra: “At this level (throat) we experience the quality of space alone.  This is the characteristic of the element of ether.

We have seen that the four lower elements all have qualities which are basically activities within space: ether is the space itself within which these activities take place. The sense of sound is derived from the element of ether”.

I hope you are enjoying these articles on the chakras.  There are many opinions about them.  I am sharing what I know and what I have experienced in my work as a clairvoyant reader and healer.

Next month we will look at the Sixth chakra or Third Eye.
