The Second or Sacral ChakraThis is the second in a series of articles on the chakra system.  I want to begin by attributing the Chakra books by Peter Rendel and Cyndi Dale which, along with others, have informed and inspired me. The seven major chakras are located along your spine.  The first chakra is located at the tip of the tailbone, the second is about 2 inches below the belly button, the third is at the solar plexus, the fourth is the middle of the chest, the fifth is at the base of the neck, the sixth is in the center of the head, behind the eyes, and the seventh sits flat on the top of the head.  All except the seventh go through the body, front to back.

Their functions range from completely physical- the first chakra, to completely spiritual- the seventh chakra and they impact every aspect of life.  Each page of my website, KellyWhetstone.com, is dedicated to a chakra and there is a brief audio description and meditation for each one.

The work that I do with individuals is all about reading their energetic body, ie; chakras and aura and identifying and releasing energy that blocks their power and success.  Each chakra has a function that directly contributes to your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.  The chakras hold information from this lifetime as well as previous lifetimes and not all of it is empowering.  They can hold other people’s energy as well as your own.  They are in constant motion, sending and receiving energy, and they are constantly reacting to what is happening in your life.

This article is dedicated to the second or Sacral Chakra.  The second chakra is located about two inches below the belly button in the area of the sacrum.  This is the emotional, creative and sexual center.  The element associated with the second chakra is water.  Water is an esoteric symbol for emotion.  The second chakra has to do with fluidity.  Fluidity in the expression of our feelings and creativity to others in the world and fluidity in our experience of our emotions and feelings and those of others.

Feelings occur naturally in our bodies as do thoughts.  Feelings and thoughts occur independently of each other but  the combination of feeling and thought with an energetic charge is emotion.

In my work with clients, I often see judgment around the expression and the experience of emotion.  Some  of this is a result of the information we receive from family and society such as “Men don’t cry”and some is a result of the “rules” we inflict upon ourselves in order to be accepted, or loved such as “If I get angry he or she might leave”.

It is an interesting thing, all of the resistance we have to our feelings and emotions.  It is human nature not to want to experience something that doesn’t feel good, so we push them away or talk ourselves out of them.  The problem is that they don’t go away, they expand and at some point will demand our attention.  If we  can just “have” our emotions when they first come up we can move past them.  They are information.  They are our human guidance system and we should use them as such.  If we act on them or “have” them they disperse because they have done their job.  If we resist them or react to them based on past memories they can become stuck.  And we become stuck as a result reacting in the same way every time a certain emotion arises whether it is appropriate to the situation or not based on previous experience.  A lot of the time we cannot identify the original experience but we are stuck in a loop, so to speak, when ever the emotion arises.  This is where a reading can bring awareness, healing and freedom.

The outgoing or Yang function of the second chakra is the expression of feelings emotions and creativity.  The receptive or Yin function of the second chakra is experiencing the feelings and emotions of others or empathy.

If you are at all empathic, the second chakra is where you take on the feelings of other people and your surroundings and if you do not have a method to release them, such as a grounding cord, they stick and you end up carrying everyone you encounter  home with you and you can’t figure out why you feel the way you do.  Empathy is a beautiful thing but without boundaries it can become overwhelming to the point of affecting your health.  You may take on the feelings and emotions of others to point of not being able to find you inside you.

The second chakra also has to do with money and abundance.  It is at womb level for women –  fertility, creativity and prosperity.  It is considered the Woman’s power center.

When the second chakra is functioning properly there fluidity to life.  Creative expression flows and feelings and emotions are processed easily. The color associated with the second chakra is orange
